Trails Good in Our Northern WI/MI Region

It’s a “Great Day For Snowmobiling”!! Overall trails in the Presque Isle/Winchester area are in “Good To Very Good Condition” even after a very heavy traffic weekend. There are areas on our system that can be called “Excellent”.  The area known as “Consolidated” has been almost perfect first thing each morning…

We got 6″ snowfall over the weekend and there are predicted snowfalls of 4-8 inches today and tomorrow. Snow is predicted in smaller amounts the rest of the week also. Below Zero Temps are coming in Wednesday thru Saturday and most “Trails” crossing lakes should be open after this cold spell, but please continue to only cross trails that are marked at this time though!

Other area trails are in good shape (but still less so as you move south even by one town). Mercer, Manitowish Waters, Hurley in Wisconsin and many places in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula all make for great day rides.

Come on up and enjoy the wonderful Sport of Snowmobiling! Please consider joining and supporting our local Sno-Bunnies Snowmobile Club at http://sno-bunnies.com. In joining, you can then get your WI Trail pass for just $10.

Trails are GOOD in Presque Isle

Our trails are in good shape and are holding up well with traffic — you can find nice riding from here and to Mercer/Hurley area (but still some swamps/wet areas not being groomed and we continue to advise to stay off lakes). Testimonials from yesterday:

“We rode 100 miles today and Presque Isle had the best trails this morning and still in fantastic shape at 4pm.” – Julie B.

Very good trails around Presque Isle… U P excellent the more you go north the better the snow.” – Calvin K.

If you head north, note that Michigan grooming is a little spotty around Ironwood area, but Gogebic area trails are nice, flat, smooth and get better towards Berglund/Silver City. A site with western UP conditions:

Lake effect expected today in PI and north. THINK SNOW!!

Odd Weather… But Trails Are Holding Up

Overall our trails in the Presque Isle/Winchester area are in “Good-to-Fair Condition”….. It’s been an interesting start to the season weather-wise. We continue to have a decent base, even after the “wintry-mix” on Christmas Day. Ironically, the ice-y stuff created a nice crust and that, along with the cold and a fresh inch here and there is keeping the trails from deteriorating. You can still find decent to good riding (towards Mercer/Hurley), still noting that trails remain in early season condition.

We continue to need more snow and we have chances the next 4 days for small amounts. The trails are flat so any snow helps. Please note, we have 3 areas crossing swamps which we have not been able to get the groomers onto yet… ..please ride with caution in these areas. And, please do not cross any lakes at this time….there is still “Thin Ice” most lakes.

The riders we have been talking to are generally pleased with the early season riding so come on up and give your sled a workout!!!!! In the meantime please Ride Safe and Enjoy your Christmas Week with Family and Friends and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!!

Help us out too, and use the hashtag #MakeTracksInOurSnow for any information/reports you’d like to make sure is passed along our way. We appreciate the input and feedback.

Finally, if you haven’t got your trail pass yet, you can visit SnoBunnies.com and join as a member and WI passes are then just $10! SnoBunnies.com. They are our local club and have really bumped up their trail care these past years… we hope you appreciate it, and join us in supporting them financially.

Trails are Fair – Snow in the Forecast

Welcome back to another “Snowmobile Season”!!  We are expecting fresh snow almost daily for the next week, and we need it after a warm-up today (Thursday 12/22).

Trails are “FAIR”… we continue to need cold, hard freezes for swamps and lakes to freeze up. We still have wet sections of our trail system that we will bypass during grooming until they are frozen enough to hold the weight of the groomer. Trails are still in early season condition and the wet areas should be expected, and rode with caution. We’ll update frequently as we hope with some fresh snow that the trails will bounce back nicely and in time for the post-Christmas riders.

Please consider joining and supporting our Sno-Bunnies Snowmobile Club at http://sno-bunnies.com. In joining, you can then get your WI Trail pass for just $10.

Early Season Trail Conditions

Welcome back to another “Snowmobile Season”!!!…We are expecting more snow Friday and into Saturday/Sunday and as of now trails are rated as “FAIR-to-GOOD”… We’ll continue to need cold, hard freezes for swamps and lakes to freeze up. Trails passed inspection and Vilas is opening as of Thursday, December 12!

All trails that are accessible have been rolled for packing and allow the ground to freeze. This also allows the wet areas to freeze which is what really needs to happen right now. We have wet sections of our trail system that we will bypass until they are frozen enough to hold the weight of the groomer. These areas should be expected, and ride with caution.

Please consider joining and supporting our Sno-Bunnies Snowmobile Club at http://sno-bunnies.com. In joining, you can then get your WI Trail pass for just $10.

Have fun, and ride safe!

Trails Open Thursday 12/15 at Noon!

20161211_123522The time has come… Our Sno Bunnies are working hard and reporting that all accessible trails have been rolled to pack them down and allow the ground to freeze. This also allows the wet areas to freeze which is what really needs to happen right now. Wednesday and Thursday, they will groom with the drag. We do have wet sections of our trail system that the groomers will bypass until they are frozen enough to hold the weight of the groomer. These areas should be expected and road with caution. The lakes are largely not frozen and are not marked. We strongly advise staying off and being prepared to side-route the swamps until reports indicate otherwise. We are looking at negative zero temps for a week plus so our freezing waters will hopefully catch up asap. Ride safe and have a blast this 2016-2017!

Note: You should be able to find trails in Good condition (although early season as indicated above), particularly in Presque Isle, Mercer, and north into Michigan as these areas have received heavier snow totals, around 15-20″ over the past couple of days.

Thank you for a great season!

As of March 11th, 2016 at 8 am the snowmobile trails are closed.  We want to thank everyone that came up and rode on the trails and supported the local snowmobile club and the businesses!  It is because of our great visitors that we can keep the trails in excellent condition!  THANK YOU and we will see you again next year!

Season coming to an end

With the warm temperatures and rain we are expected to get, it seems the season will be coming to an end.  We have not received any official word yet but the trails are in very rough shape with dirt showing in many places.  Unless things change drastically we can pretty much count on the trails closing soon.  Thank you to everyone who came up and enjoyed the the trails and we hope to see you again next year!
